Increase the Concentration of Oxygen

Dry air contains approximately 20.95% oxygen by volume.  The O2Zone® uses pressure swing adsorption technology to concentrate oxygen from the atmosphere.  An air compressor and two molecular sieve beds remove most of the nitrogen from air.  These units produce 90-95% by volume oxygen gas with the balance consisting of nitrogen that was not removed and argon.  The partial pressure of oxygen in an atmosphere of 90% oxygen is 0.90 atmospheres as compared to a partial pressure of 0.2095 atmospheres for standard air.  By increasing the purity of oxygen gas, the oxygen partial pressure, and hence the equilibrium DO concentration in water, becomes 0.90/0.2095 or 4.3 times higher than that for air.
