Source Area Treatment

Anaerobic bioremediation requires moderate pH (~6.5 to ~8.5).  By buffering the source area with Neutral Zone® a subsequent or co-injection of Newman Zone® can continuously eliminate or immobilize contaminants within the source area, thereby preventing migration of ground water contaminants from the source area.

Injection of any amendment that will enhance bioremediation has the potential to mobilize contamination from the source area and expand the area of dissolved phase contamination.  A site-specific injection plan should balance the need to distribute the amendment within the source area without mobilizing contamination moving it from the source area.  Such a plan could include placement of a down-gradient permeable reactive barrier.
