Limitations of Aeration
Dissolved oxygen solubility for water in equilibrium with air is a function of the partial pressure of the oxygen in air, the water temperature, and the water salinity. Dry air contains about 20.95% oxygen by volume producing a partial pressure at sea level of 0.2095 atmospheres. The mass concentration for water in equilibrium with air (0.2095 atmospheres of oxygen) will vary with salinity and water temperatures with typical values ranging between 8 mg/L and 12 mg/L.
